Headless vs. Headful Modes: Background Running Explained

Author: PrompCut SupportLast Updated: June 4, 2026

How to choose between watching the automation run in real-time or letting it execute silently in the background.

What is a Headless Browser?

A headless browser is a web browser run without a graphical user interface (GUI). Running headless allows PrompCut to control Chrome in the background, saving up to 45% RAM and system CPU load compared to headful browser sessions.

When to Run Headless

Headless execution is ideal for high-volume background jobs (like rendering 100+ images or generating long video sequences) when you want to focus on editing or other tasks on your primary monitor.

Watching in Real-Time (Headful Mode)

If you ever want to see exactly what the bot is doing, or if the automation pauses to wait for manual login or CAPTCHA resolution, click the 'Show Me the Browser' button. This launches the headful visual GUI immediately.
